God’s Goodness

Psalm 100

1-Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! 2 Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. 3 Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture, 4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. 5 For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.

The encouragement of living for the Lord can be found in who God is. When my days are long, trials continue, or I just don’t feel quite joyous, I can remind myself who God is and who He has shown Himself to be.

I have a practice of keeping a journal that includes sermons, thoughts, and reflections on my life. I revisit these pages periodically when I face a similar situation or want to recount God’s goodness to me. Being in Christ means having a relationship with Him: this relationship takes precedence over everything in life. The duties, responsibilities, difficulties, and well just daily life can interfere with my peace, joy, and rest. In these moments I can feel overwhelmed and tired. But, as soon as I begin to praise the Lord, read His word, and rest in Him refreshment and hope appear. I am always amazed at how much energy the Holy Spirit imparts to me when I acknowledge the Lord in worship. I am daily more aware of how God orders my days and His divine intervention in each difficulty.

As believers we can rely on His goodness, because He is omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, and immutable. Isn’t that wonderful to know that the one who made us and cares for us is all knowing, present, all powerful, and unchanging. There is nothing that life can bring that our God isn’t more powerful than. I am relieved, overjoyed, and humbled to serve Him. So let us remember to bring our praise to His courts in thanksgiving of His goodness always! Be encouraged that He is with you and will be good to you!
